Issue 4 – Persistence, the difference between success and failure

There are some basic principles of success that take on an even greater significance when times become difficult. One of these principles is undoubtably “Persistence”. With such high levels of negativity around, people are more likely than ever to give up on their goals and dreams too quickly, in response to inevitable challenges and failures.

In this month’s newsletter we would like to urge you all to keep going when you face challenges. We will demonstrate, with some examples of famous people who refused to give up, how important this concept is to the achievement of great success.

We are also including a free book summary – “Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill where he outlines the 13 principles of success. Not surprisingly one of these 13 principles is “Persistence”.

As usual we also have some information on our forthcoming events that may be of interest to you.

We hope you enjoy.

Thanks
Mick

PERSISTENCE – THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUCCESS AND FAILURE

It is incredible how often in the past persistence has proven to be the difference between success and failure. History is full of examples of people who have achieved great success despite repeated failures and seemingly unsurmoutable challenges that they faced.

This month we look at some of these people to inspire us to keep chasing our dreams. The negativity that currently exists has lead to a lot of people giving up far too quickly on goals and dreams that are achievable with determination and persistence. Very often people give up when they are on the verge of greatness. It is often after they have invested a huge amount of energy and resources into achieving their goal that they come across another challenge and decide that enough is enough. Unfortunately, in many cases this is the moment, that if they just keep going and get through their current crisis they will start to make fantastic progress and finally achieve their goals.

Here are a few examples of incredible persistence demonstrated by famous individuals which ultimately lead to amazing success.

James Dyson.
James Dyson became famous with his invention of the bagless vacuum cleaner. However this did not just happen overnight or without problems. It took 5127 prototypes before he perfected his product. He almost went bankrupt on several occasions and none of the leading manufactors of vacuum cleaners would make the product so he set up his own manufacturing company. As a result he has become the world’s first billionaire inventor.

Walt Disney
If you are not familiar with James Dyson’s vacuum cleaner you will certainly be aware of the success achieved by Walt Disney. Although he had one failing business venture after another in his lifetime, Walt Disney never gave up hope that his dreams would one day be realized. Bankruptcy and rejections from countless banks throughout the years did not stop Walt from persisting with, and finally achieving, his dreams.

John Creasey
John was a prolific English crime writer. He went on to write 550 books. However this was not before he was rejected by publishers 753 times. John obviously knew what he wanted and keep going until he achieved it.

Thomas Edison
Perhaps the most famous and often quoted example of persistence. Depending on the sources you read Edison failed 1,000 or even 10,000 times when trying to invent the light bulb. Even if we take the lower figure we have another amazing example of persistence. When asked about his failures Edison replied that “I have failed 1,000 times. I have successful discovered a 1,000 ways of how not to make a light bulb. If we could all learn from our failures in this way we would transform the level of success we achieve in our lives.

You
Ok you may not be famous just yet but you have already demonstrated amazing persistence in your lives already. When you were first learning to walk you will have tried to get up from the floor and undoubtably you would have failed. In fact you would probably have failed hundreds of times before you finally succeeded in taking those first steps. And as you failed did you think to yourself “this isn’t working I might as well give up. I obviously am not cut out for walking”. Of course not. You persisted and persisted, learning from each failure until you made the necessary adjustments to succeed.

Why not apply this philosophy to all your key goals. You will be amazed at the results.
